The Benefits Of Using Employee Schedule Software

April 8th, 2010 | Adriana Noton | Scheduling

For workplaces that make use of numerous varying schedules, it can be useful to have something to keep everything organized. A great way to do this is to use employee schedule software. The software comes in different styles and makes scheduling much easier than before. If this seems like an idea that may be helpful, consider some of the following points about the software.

This option can be of great help not only to employers, but also to employees as well. The employers can use the software to organize various schedules at work and notify the workforce. Shifts can be arranged and edited conveniently and quickly. If you have multiple employees that are working shifts, this can also be noted in the scheduling software as well. Allowing employees access to the software afterward makes sure that everyone is up to date on any changes in the schedule.

For employees this can be great for gaining extra shifts or switching shifts with someone. Many employees would rather handle shift matters via a log in from a site or the software itself instead of having to call their work to try to change their schedule or find out what a current schedule is. The use of the software also ends the problem of losing any schedules that have previously been printed out or dealing with missed voice mails updating shifts.

If you are concerned about keeping track of days or hours that have been worked, the software can be used to note this information as well. This can be useful if you need this information for any documentation for your business. Employees can enjoy this feature because it makes it easier for those who have to fill out their own time sheets or other paperwork associated with hourly information.

Typical price can vary depending on the style of the software that is chosen. In most cases the employer will pay for the use of the software for the company. However, if the employees also need to use it as required by their job, then they may have to pay a portion of the price as well. It depends on the policies of the company involved overall.

In consideration of the many options that are available with employee schedule software, it is important to examine their different strengths and weaknesses. This can be used to help you decide which titles will be best for your job or business. When you have narrowed it down to a few different types, you can begin to consider comparing prices for good value.

Clearly, the use of such software is beneficial to everyone involved, whether they are an employer or an employee. Since it allows everyone to view the schedule clearly or alter it, there is no question about when shifts end or begin. This means no confusion about schedule changes and less missed days in the schedule for workers at their jobs.

The above are just some general reasons that employee schedule software can be of great use to anyone in the workforce. There are numerous styles available with multiple uses, so it is important to consider the options thoroughly. If you believe that it could be a beneficial option at your job, consider doing some research to find the software that is best for your company.

Make the scheduling of your human resources efficient and a breeze by using online employee scheduling that enables you to communicate work schedules to all of your employees. Our employee schedule maker will streamline human resources for your company.

Three Ways to Improve Product Quality on a Tight Budget

March 23rd, 2010 | admin | Uncategorized

San Diego, CA (PRLEAK) Manufacturing firms often find it difficult to maintain product quality in these difficult times. Strapped with a tight budget, engineers and technicians need to work harder for much less. However, Eddie Silverberg, CEO of Flexible Assembly Systems, a leading integrator of torque tools and equipment, thinks otherwise. He has devised three simple ways to help manufacturers improve the quality of their products on a minimum budget.

According to Silverberg, the first step is to set up an in-house calibration program. Equipment failure is a major cause for concern, leading to loss in productivity and product recalls costing thousands of dollars. An in-house calibration program will help reduce time and money spent on repairing faulty equipment. The program involves the disciplined use of tools, setting up calibration and maintenance for tools, and making investments in in-house calibration systems like torque testers.

Another important factor that Silverberg points out is the development of an ergonomic workspace for technicians. Creating an ergonomic improvement plan will help reduce technician fatigue, thereby improving throughput and product quality. The past two decades has witnessed a tremendous growth in industrial ergonomic products. According to Silverberg, creating an ergonomic workspace is easy, especially with the right ergonomic tools that can prove their weight in gold.

Creating an automated workplace is more affordable today. These systems are more reliable and accurate~These systems are more reliable and accurate~These systems are more reliable and accurate~These systems are more reliable and accurate~These systems are more reliable and accurate}. Silverberg’s Flexible Assembly Systems has sold a number of tools including screwfeeders and other torque tools to a wide range of satisfied customers. According to him, customers gain in the long term, as they will be able to recover the initial cost in a short period, and reap the benefits of producing high quality products.

About Flexible Assembly Systems: Since its inception in 2003, the company gone on to become a leading integrator of torque tools and equipment with an extensive product list that includes Assembly Tools, Automotive Tools, Electric Screwdrivers, and Material Handling Systems, among other tools.

Individual Healthcare Plans and Prescription Assistance Programs For The United States

March 23rd, 2010 | admin | Uncategorized

Personal medical coverage provides reimbursement for medical care. Prescription assistance programs may be included in some plans. Some programs may possibly provide for payment of medical charges incurred on a reimbursement basis by paying benefits to the policy owner, payment on a service basis by paying those who supply the services directly, or payment of an indemnity by paying a fixed sum regardless of the total charged for medical bills. Medical expense or hospitalization insurance could be issued on an individual or group basis. Some of these policies will provide prescription help.

Although there are many types of benefits offered, private medical expense coverage will generally be categorized as basic medical expense insurance, major medical insurance, comprehensive medical insurance, and special plans. These policies ought to cover prescriptions because prescription drugs help so many patients. The majority of these plans have essentially been replaced by managed care policies and are no longer sold as stand-alone policies. These types of plans have been modified and replaced in answer to changes in the health care field relative to cost containment and market competition.

Basic coverage provided by a private health expense policy includes hospital expense, surgical expense and medical expense. These 3 basics may possibly be written together or separately. Normally this is written as “first dollar” coverage, which means it does not include a deductible.

Like the name implies, hospital expense medical insurance provides benefits for visits incurred during hospitalization. Hospital indemnities are ordinarily classified into two general groups:

• Room and board, including nursing care and special diets

• Miscellaneous health charges, as well as x-rays, laboratory fees, medications, medical supplies, and operating and treatment rooms

In some cases, surgical benefits may perhaps be incorporated for a number of types of surgery and related costs. Hospital expense healthcare insurance offers benefits for daily hospital room and board and various hospital charges whilst the insured person is confined to the hospital. The policy possibly will provide for a particular dollar amount for the daily hospital room and board benefit, even though the trend is in the direction of health insurance of not more than the semiprivate room rate unless a private room is medically necessary. The room and board benefit possibly will be paid on either an indemnity basis or a reimbursement basis, depending on the specific plan.

Indemnity programs are every now and then called dollar amount plans. Room and board rates vary by geographic location, however it is not uncommon to notice room and board rates ranging from $300  to $750  per day or more.

Typically, the maximum number of days is from 40  to 365 . More commonly, room and board charges are paid on a reimbursement basis. also called an expenses incurred basis~This is also known as a expenses incurred basis~This is often times called a expenses incurred basis}. Under this plan, the health insurance will reimburse in one of two ways.

• The actual expenses for a semiprivate room are covered.

• A percentage of the actual cost is paid, with no specific dollar limit.

Under the first reimbursement option, the health insurance carrier will pay the full actual semiprivate room rate, regardless of what it is. Under the second reimbursement option, the healthcare insurance company pays a specific percentage, regardless of what the actual charges are. A universal percentage is 80%.

To recap, with the actual charges kind of reimbursement program, the policy will pay the actual amount billed for a semiprivate room with no regard to a specific dollar limit. Under the percentage style of reimbursement policy, the program might pay a certain percentage of the actual bill.

Effectively Using Online Contact Management With Your Business

March 23rd, 2010 | admin | Uncategorized

When it comes to customer tracking, there are many systems that get the job done. Some of these systems are developed in-house, others are a spreadsheet, and some are the good old fashion pen and paper. However, there are many companies that provide online contact management services that allow a business to effectively track many aspects of the customer side of their business. Web based applications are typically full of features that allow for better management and increased productivity among all employees.

Any business that is involved in any aspect of sales can use online contact management programs to keep tabs on all sales representatives; ensure they are on the same page. Each of your sales representatives can document calls received from clients. Some content management systems also have features that enable you to generate quotes for interested consumers; your employee can then upload these images into a PDF fie to display on the online contact management site. This makes for easy quote retrieval; another employee can see the quotes that were given and management can verify that a sales representative is doing their job properly by distributing those quotes to interested consumers.

This method of monitoring contact is also ideal for companies that contract sales work to home based workers. For this type of use, a contact management system must be web based. By giving the data to a third party, a sales person can easily access their sales leads through any computer. Since the program is web-based, there is no need for the installation of software or special encryptions; the user can log into the program through the web browser and then get right to work.

Another benefit of this type of web based system is the protection it gives when employees come and go. The manager can go in and deactivate a user’s account but keep all of their contacts in the database. Those notes and all contract information can be transferred over to a new account once a new replacement is found. The notes contained are still there, as are quotes and all other information the previous employee added to the system, allowing the new person to quickly get up to speed and figure out which clients need to be met with first. With online contact management, any business can easily control and preserve sensitive company date should a valued employee ever leave the company.

The business benefits of cloud computing

August 25th, 2009 | admin | Uncategorized

NetSuite Pricing

All of the technology and business people I regularly talk to keep mentioning cloud computing. But what is it, what is the impact on business and what are the monetary and obvious upsides?

Cloud means Internet. The computing takes place on the Internet – in place of the software you use executing on your desktop pc, it’s hosted on the Internet on a server installed in a data centre commonly staffed by people who are proficient in managing technology. This type of “cloud” software is sometimes called “on demand” or Software as a Service (SaaS).

Some best of breed examples of popular Software as a Service are:

Web based CRM Software (Customer Relationship Management) – Salesforce.com pricing about $9 per user/month.
Small business management and accounting software (small business ERP) – Salesorder.com pricing $45 per user/month.
Medium sized business ERP software – NetSuite pricing about $99 per user/month.

There are 3 substantial benefits for every business here:

Time, cost savings and reliability

Businesses no longer require a resident systems expert to help them procure, bed in and look after the hardware and software infrastructure thus decreasing operating expenses and time to implement. The effort of vigilantly backing up data is eradicated as this is almost always an inherent feature of the “cloud” software. Cloud software “operators” often have redundant systems that can be brought to bear in minutes should a catastrophic issue occur.

Easier selection and wider choice

With just a web browser, businesses now have 24/7 access to a big selection of business software they can in the majority of cases immediately test and quickly assess if the software fits their needs at minimal expense. This makes it effective for innovators in large businesses to circumvent the restrictive information technology procurement processes and easily assess and prove their business proposal.

Better user experience

The cloud provides instant feedback to software makers and has led to substantial progress in user interface design resulting in easier to use systems in turn reducing learning times and increasing user satisfaction. This of course means faster adoption and better productivity.

Why Employee Satisfaction and Employee Exit Surveys Make Good Sense

August 25th, 2009 | admin | Uncategorized

With the need for many businesses to be more streamlined and productive a company can sometimes find itself with many of their employees working under pressure that can then lead to low moral and possible result in a high staff turnover. The benefits of a company having a highly motivated workforce can be considerable and the two goals of having a workforce that is both motivated and productive should not be regarded as being mutually exclusive to one another.

When problems are left unresolved then there is a risk of companies alienating their employees leading to employee frustrations growing to a point where managers find that they are on the back foot with problems that just cannot be ignored.

Ideally employers would allocate the time to fully understand the needs of their employees and learn from their experiences of working on the front line, but employers are too often themselves tied up with the day to day task of fighting their own fires.

Online surveys provide employers with an affordable and efficient method to automate the process of collating the information and storing it in a format that allows for real-time analysis there by helping the management towards the goals of achieving staff satisfaction and high productivity.

Unproductive & dissatisfied

There are a plethora of reasons why employees may become dissatisfied with their job that can result in them channelling their frustrations into demands for higher salaries and reduced hours. Employers who tackle these issues head on, making it all about salary and hours, will often find themselves dealing with the symptoms and not the root cause.

Not just about the money

The following are the most common problems to achieving productivity, none of which are likely to be resolved by increasing salaries or reducing hours:-

  • Inadequate training
  • Out of touch management
  • Working methods that are past their sell by date
  • Lack of proper tools and equipment

There have been many studies that have consistently revealed that financial reward is not the most important motivator for employees, providing an employee is being paid the market rate the employer would be wrong to think that the solution to all employee problems is through paying higher salaries.

Take the case of a single mother who is juggling a full time job with the need to look after four children. Out of frustration she may demand more money so that she feels that she is able to cope where a better solution, for both her and the business, may be more flexible working hours.

Good two-way communications

It is in the interests of all organizations to establish good communications. A company that makes communication between personnel and management difficult, or that takes the view that if personnel have a problem they will say something, can often delude themselves into thinking their workforce is content when it is not. It can very easily start with a small problem and one aggrieved employee for the problem to escalate to involve an entire workforce and generate a ‘them and us’ attitude.

Improving communication

For very small organizations it may be manageable to have regular meetings between the employer and individual employees but for larger companies this would probably prove impractical.

Meetings between management and worker representatives are good in theory but can often spiral into becoming talking shops and losing their purpose as both sides become more familiar with one another and the meetings run the risk of being hijacked by the more extreme personalities.

Having suggestion boxes are useful but can be viewed as token efforts by management as they wait for personnel to highlight a problem.

Newsletters can be useful, but their main purpose is generally to inform and not discuss issues.

Maintaining the initiative

Conducting employee satisfaction surveys on a regular basis you are able to ask each employee specific questions and present a pro-active management initiative where the whole workforce can be consulted on various issues. Surveys are able to provide a level playing field between the quieter and more vocal employees.

Being prepared to consulate with employees should not be seen as a sign of weakness, a confident manager will take counsel from all quarters before making a decision. By retaining the initiative and conducting a survey the employer is able to tackle problems from a position of strength as opposed to waiting for problems to arise and develop out of proportion.

Leave a small problem unresolved and it can lead to a situation where a minor problem might just break the camel’s back and the mood of the employees change from positive to negative over night.

It’s quick and easy

For most organizations online surveys represent a proactive and low cost solution. For the majority of organizations where most of the personnel have desktop computers, they are quick to design and deploy direct to the individual.

Where not all of the personal have access to a computer there are various options available that will allow you to accommodate their responses such as providing a shared computer, conducting telephone surveys or as a last resort, a hardcopy survey where the hard-copy responses can be added to those who competed the survey online.

Job satisfaction

There are combined elements that will contribute towards an employee’s job satisfaction, including company ethics, working methodology, ethos and environment to having decisive and effective management. Job satisfaction brings benefits through improved productivity and motivation from a workforce that feels that they are treated as individuals and not a commodity item.

Inform and educate

An online survey can also be used to educate and pass on to the workforce important information, the ‘message’ is consistently delivered and does not suffer from the Chinese whisper phenomenon where a message can be distorted as it is handed down.

An online survey can explain a difficult situation and get valuable feedback from the employees as to the best solution. In this situation it is rare that the workforce would appear negative and more likely that they will feel informed and empowered that might in itself turn a potentially negative problem into a positive challenge that unites the workforce.

Exit surveys

Exit surveys are an ideal method for management to make sure that when people leave the organisation they are not leaving because of problems that could have been addressed and possibly resolved if they had been appreciated earlier. Although identifying a problem may not prevent a person leaving it could solve an unappreciated issue that may, if left unchecked, result in other key personnel also leaving.

Analysing the results

Having consulted with the workforce using an online survey the results are available for instant analysis. Common and specific problems can be identified and the senior management informed who then will have the chance to address the issues that have been raised.

Summary

Used regularly online surveys represent a simple and productive method of taking the pulse of an organisation and an easy way to establish a two way communication channel between employer and employee with the results providing management with vital, accurate and significant information.

Making The Lean Manufacturing Process Effective

May 26th, 2009 | admin | Uncategorized

The lean manufacturing process is an ongoing development, with no possible ending. For this reason it is not so easy to “define”, even more difficult to feel as if you have arrived. Because it is a program in development, you are always striving for improvement.

Once you have [made a commitment] to begin your official journey, you must consider if you are able to follow through with such an ongoing process process by using your in-house personnel, or if you should hire one of the many lean manufacturing consultants.

A good way to start is by asking people in your industry and size of company. You can learn a great deal from the experience of others. Word of mouth recommendations are always the best as well.

What are some lean manufacturing methods?

  • Identify major areas of waste
  • High defect rate
  • Exessive inventory
  • Waiting
  • Motion
  • Wasted transport
  • Excess production

Several methods you will implement :

5S implementation is one of the most important things you can do for your business, without a doubt. Your clutter will vanish, you will know where every single thing is in your shop will have a place and be in its place], and everybody will be happier and more productive and more productive]. This is a good thing! The best way to start is with 5S implementation.

Kaizen and continuous improvement are one in the same thing, the word kaizen is Japanese and it has several subtly different meanings, but continuous improvement is best for our purposes.

The Kaizen event, or Kaizen blitz, is one of the more popular programs. This has become a very useful and common tool in lean manufacturing. Many companies have incorporated it into their business culture very successfully.

Value stream mapping is great program that enables you to see the big picture of where you and where you want to be. It might appear complicated at first, it is actually rather simple, once you break it down into bite-sized chunks.

An overview of six sigma reveals a methodology for quality improvement. The trademark is owned by Motorola, and as such Six Sigma is a “brand name.” Because it is also used by countless consultants who use the name of six sigma, you see it capitalized when it is used by Motorola and in lower-case letters otherwise when Motorola uses the name.

Using the lean manufacturing techniques to eliminate waste

  • Quality-eliminating mistakes
  • Pull systems-flow control
  • One piece flow-intelligent automation
  • Lead time reduction
  • Level loading-mixed model production
  • More effective time management

Common sense prevails

Ask a manufacturer who has successfully implemented the lean manufacturing process, you will find that they truly like it because it is just common sense. The big difference is that it is monitored and sustained company wide, or at least within a work area or department.

Once a system is in place, it is rather like another spoke on a wheel, making it stronger and better. You must use an integrated method if you want to achieve the maximum results.Just as the wheel needs all the spokes, so does a lean manufacturing program need every part of the plan in order to work properly

About us?

Jon Arnett and Randy Hough have been involved in lean manufacturing for manufacturing for over 30 years. Their main focus has been in plastic injection molding and mold making. They have an excellent website designed to give you an understanding of the lean manufacturing process and how to implement your lean program.

Learn Time Management And Enjoy Life Better

May 19th, 2009 | admin | Uncategorized

We only have this limited period of time on this planet so we should strive to do as much as we can with what we get. Wasted hours are gone forever and you only get twenty four each day. With just three hundred and sixty-five days each year we cannot afford to waste any since we can never get them back. Living our life as best we can is all we can do since we have no idea how much time we have left.

You don't get any choice on how much time you have. You lifespan is limited and you can't have more so it isn't like other things in life where you can make more money or have more food. The one constant thing in our lives is that time continues whatever we do. Whatever you achieve in your life will be limited by the time you have available.

When I thought about the total number of minutes I might have left I knew I should try to enjoy each one more while I stll can. The phrase time management is a term we associate with business efficiancy but we can all learn time management skills and use the techniques in our daily lives to achieve more or what we want from life.

We all heave dreams and ambitions of what we would like to achieve. Spend more of your time enjoying life with your family or more time travelling the world. Anything you enjoy doing will be easier if you can free up more of your time and that should help you enjoy your life more.

Think about how your time is used up each day so you can get more out of your time tomorrow. Looking at how we spend our time gives us a better understanding of where the time was well used and where it was wasted which helps us focus on what to do in future.

If you visualize yourself in the future looking back at your life and what you did this week. Will you look back and be glad you spent two hours watching a TV program you weren't really interested in? You may feel you should have spent the time enjoying life with your partner and your family?

Most people manage to throw away some wasted time each and every single day. Most of us do some things just to use up time until something is due to happen. There must be better things to do than that. You will never get those hours or minutes back again. Spend a few moments every day thinking about your personal time management and decide if what you are doing is what you really want to do. Make a list of what you plan to do and you will find you get more things done.
